THE CAUSE
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system. In those with MS, nerves are under attack by the immune system, causing communication problems between the brain and the rest of the body. The disease attacks myelin, the protective covering of the nerves which is necessary for the transmission of nerve impulses. In the best of cases this can mean dizziness, fatigue, weakness, and cognitive impairment. In the worst of cases this can mean waking up one morning to find that you are unable to walk, suddenly have impaired vision, or have completely lost your memory. Symptoms of the disease are extremely unpredictable and the cause is largely unknown.
An estimated 100,000 Canadians are currently living with the disease. In Canada you have a greater risk of developing MS than in any other country in the world.
100% of funds raised will be directed towards research into the cause and cure of MS.
